Former Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, People’s Republic of China


Served as Vice Premier of the State Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, and Special Envoy to the Soviet Union of the People’s Republic of China. Also served as Chairman of the Preparatory Committee of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Chairman of the Macao SAR Preparatory Committee. Diplomatic career started in the 1950s. Served as Councillor in Moscow, Ambassador to Guinea and chief of United Nations affairs.
