Written extensively on international political economy, underdevelopment, US foreign policy and globalization’s unintended consequences. Author or editor of eight books including the forthcoming Illicit: How smugglers, traffickers and copycats are hijacking the global economy. Regular opinion columns appear in the Financial Times, El PaÍs, Newsweek and many of the world's leading newspapers. Served as Venezuela's minister of trade and industry in the early 1990's.
