Secretary-General, League of Arab States

Prior to appointment as secretary-general, served as Egyptian foreign minister, permanent representative to the United Nations and ambassador to India. Joined the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1958 and has held posts in various departments and missions around the world.
