Expertise in international politics of the Middle East and international relations theory. Has interviewed leaders of more than two dozen armed groups including Sheikh Naim Qasim (Hamas) and Joe Cahill (IRA). Has published many books on guerrilla war, revolution and terrorism; among them: Two Hours that Shook the World: September 11, 2001, Causes and Consequences (2001).
