Prior to current position was parliamentary spokesman of the Alliance '90/Greens in the Deutsche Bundestag (1994-1998). Hessian Minister of the Environment, Energy and Federal Affairs and deputy to the Hessian minister-president (state premier) (1991-1994). Chairman of the Greens group in the Hessian Landtag (state parliament) and member of the Hessian Landtag (1987-1991).
