During 30 years at the Financial Times newspaper, has been diplomatic editor, defence correspondent and energy editor. Twice posted to Washington, DC (once for The Economist magazine), and twice to Brussels as well as Paris. Author of several books on the European Union, including Europe Relaunched: Truths and Illusions on the Way to 1992” and “Europe: the Strange Superpower.
